THE ROYAL JUNIOR

Fostering the next generation of players and leaders who will advance the golf world.

Creating opportunities to embody “Courtesy & Intelligence” and step onto the world stage.

“THE ROYAL JUNIOR” is Asia’s premier junior golf tournament where top junior golfers from the Asia-Pacific region, primarily Japan, compete with the goal of reaching the world stage under the philosophy of “Courtesy & Intelligence.”

This philosophy emphasizes not only physical strength and technical skill, but also the courtesy and ethics essential to becoming a golfer who earns global respect, and the intelligence required for course management. We believe it is vital for athletes to experience the world, understand the gap between themselves and global standards, and use that insight to pursue their ideals. By offering young golfers under 18 the chance to compete on a global stage against top amateurs, we are helping foster the future of golf—not only in Japan, but across Asia and the world.

“THE ROYAL JUNIOR” was launched with the support of the R&A, the spiritual home of golf in the United Kingdom.

The R&A, the spiritual home of golf in the UK, organizes The Open and the Women’s British Open, jointly oversees the rules of golf with the USGA, and promotes the development of golf culture worldwide. Its origins trace back to 1754, when one of the oldest golf clubs in history was established in St Andrews, Scotland. In 1834, King William IV of the United Kingdom granted it the title “Royal,” and it became known as The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews (commonly “R&A”). In 1897, it gained sole authority over the rules of play and has since led the evolution of the sport’s governance.
In 2004, organizational reforms separated the functions of the traditional club from those of the governing body.

The Royal Golf Club, located in Hokota City, Ibaraki, opened in 2017 with the vision of aligning Japanese golf with global standards. It was designed as a world-class course that develops players and attracts golfers respected around the globe. “THE ROYAL JUNIOR” was born in 2022 from the shared ideals of offering world-class opportunities to junior golfers from Japan and the Asia-Pacific, and THE R&A’s mission to develop global golf culture.
Winners are granted entry into The Amateur Championship and The Women’s Amateur Championship, both organized by the R&A.
Since 2023, the tournament has not only been recognized as a WAGR®-point event but has also gained the endorsement of the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC), growing into a competition that attracts top junior golfers from across the Asia-Pacific region.

In 1922, a goodwill match between the crown princes of Japan and the United Kingdom greatly contributed to the growth of golf in Japan. One hundred years later, “THE ROYAL JUNIOR,” in partnership with THE R&A and like-minded allies, aims to create a new chapter in junior golf—nurturing players and people who will be respected and successful on the global stage.
